The week-long campaign featured awareness sessions, competitions, cultural activities, and a collective pledge, reaffirming IIMV’s commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus environment.
In his address, Dr. Bagchi emphasized that ragging is a crime that undermines student safety and dignity. Urging students to uphold values of empathy, respect, and mutual support, he remarked: “Ragging is a crime; respect is prime.” He elaborated on the Supreme Court’s definition of ragging, explained relevant legal provisions, and clarified the distinction between what constitutes ragging under law and what does not, encouraging students to comply with UGC and institutional regulations.
The ceremony began with a welcome address by Prof. Kaveri Krishnan, Dean (Administration), IIMV, who underscored the proactive role of the Institute’s Anti-Ragging Committee and Anti-Ragging Squad in ensuring vigilance and preventive measures on campus.
Prof. Vijaya Bhaskar Marisetty, Dean (Academics) and Chair of the Anti-Ragging Committee, presented the committee’s report and emphasized adherence to UGC norms. He noted in his report that a meeting with student representatives, parents, media, civil society, and police authorities was held to sensitize stakeholders on anti-ragging measures.
The campaign was inaugurated on August 12, observed as Anti-Ragging Day, with Prof. Marisetty addressing the gathering on the provisions of the UGC Regulations on “What Constitutes Ragging” and administering the Anti-Ragging Oath to students.
Throughout the week, students participated enthusiastically in essay writing, debating, digital poster-making, and quiz competitions. Winners were felicitated at the closing ceremony, which also featured cultural performances including songs, a skit, and a thematic presentation. On this occasion, Dr. Bagchi unveiled an anti-ragging poster by the Police Department, reinforcing the campaign’s central message.
