IIM Visakhapatnam and NIT Sikkim Sign MoU for Modular MBA: PGPMCI

The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Post-Graduate Program in Management for Centrally Funded Technical Institutions and Institutions of National Importance (PGPMCI).

The MoU was signed in an online ceremony by Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil, Director, NIT Sikkim, and Prof. Chandrasekhar M, Director, IIM Visakhapatnam. This modular MBA program, offered by IIM Visakhapatnam, enables students and recent alumni of Centrally Funded Technical Institutions to acquire specialized management skills alongside their BTech/MTech studies, in line with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The program builds techno-managerial capabilities and prepares students for leadership roles.

It also offers flexibility, allowing participants to earn a Diploma in Management in the first year, with the option to continue into the second year to complete the MBA. The program also includes campus immersion modules, providing students with valuable on-campus learning and networking experiences.

Highlighting the program’s unique value, Prof. Chandrasekhar M said, “IIM Visakhapatnam is the first IIM to leverage NEP 2020 through this innovative program, offering immense opportunities for career progression and leadership development.”
Prof. M. Shameem Jawed, Program Director, noted that PGPMCI integrates entrepreneurial thinking with academic and industry expertise across ten domains, including Marketing, OB & HR, and Strategy. Prof. Mahesh Chandra added that the collaboration opens new avenues for NIT Sikkim students to strengthen their career prospects with management expertise alongside technical knowledge.

With this MoU, IIM Visakhapatnam has now partnered with 16 reputed NITs and IIITs for PGPMCI, reaffirming its commitment to advancing multidisciplinary, industry-relevant, and future-ready education.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from Prof. M. Shameem Jawed, acknowledging the collective efforts that made the collaboration possible. The event saw the active participation of NIT Sikkim students, faculty, and stakeholders, reflecting the enthusiasm for this pioneering initiative.

Admissions are now open for the PGPMCI program. Eligible applicants include B.Tech. and M.Tech. students of NITs and IIITs that have an MoU with IIM Visakhapatnam, as well as all alumni of B.Tech. and M.Tech. programs from all NITs and IIITs (INIs) who have graduated in the current or previous year.
