Course Introduction
Few other institutions play as important a role as building blocks of a nation’s future as Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). This is more so today, as HEIs of the fastest-growing economy of the world play a critical role in preparing young citizens to thrive in an increasingly dynamic world laden with opportunities and challenges. To be effective in this role, HEIs must themselves be led by educationists who are highly responsive to the changing environment, ready to learn, and trailblazing in their actions. The Nurturing Future Leadership Programme (NFLP) aims to empower faculty members in present and future leadership roles in HEI to develop the technical, managerial, and people skills needed for effective leadership of future generations. In keeping with the spirit of the National Educational Policy, the programme aims to provide a customized and transformative learning experience in educational leadership and management of HEIs.

The NFLP offered by the Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) for the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) allows faculty members employed at all levels in Indian HEIs to transform themselves from scholars to leaders. This five-day residential programme will provide the candidates with:
  • Skills to lead effectively across educational institutions.
  • Knowledge about themselves and their context to improve their ability to get things done.
  • Confidence in their own role to unlock their leadership potential.
Course Objectives
The participants of this program will be trained to provide leadership as educators, administrators, and facilitators of educational change within educational institutions and communities.

  1. Develop a deep understanding of the knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary to function as an effective leader in academic institutions
  2. Identify the challenges and levers of managing and leading organizations.
  3. Imbibe strategic thinking to lead organizational change and inspire high-performing teams in HEIs.
  4. Appreciate the nuances of cross-functional coordination and develop conflict resolution and consensus-building techniques.
Pedagogy
To capture the pragmatic, action-oriented nature of a leader's job involved in today's dynamic educational environment, we shall primarily use the case teaching method and supplement the case discussions with readings, lectures, role-plays, or other interactive exercises, as necessary. The skills this course seeks to develop can be sharpened only through practice. This calls for exposing the participants to the "real world" in the classroom! The case method is the most suitable pedagogical device in this regard. It enables one to simulate the "real world" in the classroom as closely as is feasible.

Target Audience
This programme is designed for emerging leaders who seek to play a more significant role in the success of their educational institute. The programme is open for permanent faculty from any discipline with at least three years of teaching experience, centrally-funded institutes, Institutes of National Importance, as well as UGC and AICTE-recognized universities, colleges, and standalone institutes.

The programme is of interest to faculty members seeking to exercise leadership in various formal and informal educational settings. Early career faculty members who have been identified for higher leadership responsibilities, are being groomed for promotions, or are specialists in respective academic areas, graduating towards leadership positions, are likely to benefit from the programme.

However, the travel costs of the participants shall need to be borne by the respective HEIs themselves.
