Financial Aid and Scholarships

1. Introduction

  • Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam, as a premier business school, offers various postgraduate Programs. Its flagship Program is the Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Management, which leads to an MBA degree. This is a two-year, full-time, fully residential Program. Admission to this Program is conducted on an all-India basis through the Common Admission Test (CAT).
  • Recognizing the financial challenges that students may face in financing their education, the Institute provides Financial Aid to deserving students. Students are also encouraged to apply for scholarships offered by various Ministries of the Government of India, State Governments, Public Sector Undertakings, Corporate Foundations, and other external agencies.
  • In order to ensure that the Institute's Financial Aid reaches the most deserving students after considering the support available through external scholarships, the Financial Aid process shall be conducted during the second year of the Program.

2. Distinctive Features of the Financial Aid Policy

  • The policy is founded on the principle that no deserving student should be denied the opportunity to pursue studies at the Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) due to financial constraints. 
  • Financial Aid is provided on a merit-cum-means basis. 
  • The Financial Aid process shall be undertaken during the second year of the Program, after students have had the opportunity to apply for various Government and Non-Government scholarships available during their first year. 
  • The policy adopts a completely objective and transparent evaluation methodology based only on measurable and verifiable parameters.
     

3. Eligibility Criteria

A student shall be eligible to apply for Financial Aid only if all of the following conditions are satisfied:

  1. The student is enrolled in the second year of the PGP at IIM Visakhapatnam. 
  2. The annual family household income for the immediately preceding financial year shall not exceed Rs. 8,00,000/- (Rupees Eight Lakh only). 
  3. The student has secured a minimum CGPA of 2.20 in their First-year (as on completion of Term-3).
  4. The student should not accumulate more than 12 Deficit Credit Points (DCPs) in the first year.
  5. A student shall not be eligible to apply for Financial Aid under this Policy if:

    i)    the student has been selected for any Government, Non-Government, Corporate, Private, or other scholarship during the first year of the Programme, where the applicable scholarship guidelines provide for financial assistance covering 100% of the Tuition Fee and continuing for the remaining tenure of the Programme, subject to the prescribed conditions; or

    ii)    the student has been placed on slow track during the first year of the Programme; or

    iii)    the student has been subjected to disciplinary action during the Programme, as determined by the competent authority of IIMV.

For the purpose of clause (i), selection shall include cases where the student’s name has been included in the list of selected scholarship recipients communicated or maintained by IIMV.

4. Quantum of Financial Aid and Disbursement

•    Financial Aid shall continue to be provided under two categories: 

  • 100% Tuition fee Waiver 
  • 25% Tuition fee Waiver 

•    No less than 2% of the batch (rounded up to the nearest integer) shall be awarded 100% Tuition fee Waiver. 
•    No less than 6% of the batch (rounded up to the nearest integer) shall be awarded 25% Tuition fee Waiver. 
 

5. Application Process

Financial Aid shall be administered in a single application process. 
Students shall submit an online Financial Aid application during the period notified by the Institute.

Each applicant shall submit:

  • A Family Income Certificate issued by the Competent Authority for the immediately preceding financial year; and 
  • Any other documents specifically notified by the Institute for verification purposes, if required. 

The Institute reserves the right to verify the authenticity of the information furnished by the applicant at any stage. Submission of false information or fabricated documents shall render the applicant ineligible for Financial Aid and may attract disciplinary action.

6. Preparation of Financial Aid Merit Score

The Financial Aid Merit Score shall be prepared using only objective and verifiable parameters.

o    First Year CGPA (as on completion of Term-3) (Weightage 30%):

The score for this component will be calculated as per the below formula:

Score = 3+27 ((Obtained CGPA-2.2)/(Maximum CGPA-2.2))

o    Final Merit Score of the Admission (Weightage 30%): The score for this component will be calculated by multiplying the obtained merit score with 0.3.

o    Annual Family Household Income for the immediately preceding financial year (Weightage 40%): The score for this component will be calculated by using the below table.

The cumulative weighted score shall constitute the Financial Aid Merit Score. Applicants shall be ranked in descending order of the Financial Aid Merit Score for preparation of Merit Lists A and B.

7. Renewal and Continuation
Since the Financial Aid process shall be conducted during the second year, no renewal process shall be applicable.


8. Tuition fee Covered

The Institute Financial Aid shall be applicable only towards the Tuition Fee (Term Fee) payable by the student. It shall not cover any other fees or charges, including but not limited to mess charges, hostel charges, air-conditioning (AC) charges, printing and photocopying charges, fines, deposits, or any other incidental or personal expenses.

9. Interpretation

The Director, Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam, shall have the authority to interpret the provisions of this Policy. Any matter not specifically covered herein shall be decided by the Institute, and such decision shall be final and binding.
 

Scholarship

In addition to the IIM Visakhapatnam Need-Based Financial Aid, students are encouraged to explore and apply for scholarships available through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), subject to fulfilment of the eligibility criteria prescribed under the respective schemes. Details of some of the major scholarship schemes available through NSP are provided below.

National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students: 

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, invites applications under the National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students for eligible Scheduled Tribe (ST) students. The scholarship is a means-based scholarship, and applicants must satisfy the prescribed eligibility conditions, including an annual family income limit of Rs 6.00 lakh, as per the prevailing scheme guidelines. The scheme provides full tuition fee support along with financial assistance towards other permitted expenses, as prescribed by the Ministry.

Top Class Education for SC Students:

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, invites applications under the Central Sector Scholarship of Top-Class Education for SC Students for eligible and meritorious Scheduled Caste (SC) students, including eligible students admitted to the first year of the PGP programme. 

The scholarship is a means- and merit-based scholarship, and applicants must satisfy the prescribed eligibility conditions, including an annual family income limit of Rs 8.00 lakh, as per the prevailing scheme guidelines. The scheme provides full tuition fee support along with financial assistance towards other permitted expenses, as prescribed by the Ministry. Selection is made based on the prescribed eligibility conditions, inter-se merit and the number of slots allocated to the Institute. Accordingly, fulfilment of the eligibility criteria does not by itself guarantee selection.

PM YASASVI Central Sector Scheme – OBC, EBC and DNT Students:

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, invites applications under the PM YASASVI Central Sector Scheme of Top Class Education in College for OBC, EBC and DNT Students for eligible students belonging to the OBC, EBC and DNT categories, including eligible students admitted to the first year of the PGP programme. Applicants must satisfy the prescribed eligibility conditions, including an annual family income limit of Rs 2.50 lakh, as per the prevailing scheme guidelines. The scheme provides full tuition fee support along with financial assistance towards other permitted expenses, subject to the applicable limits and conditions. Selection is subject to the eligibility criteria, inter-se merit, category-wise allocation and the number of slots allotted to the Institute. Therefore, students meeting the eligibility criteria are not automatically guaranteed a scholarship.

Scholarship for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities (PwD):

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Government of India, provides scholarship support under the Scholarship for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities for eligible students with benchmark disabilities pursuing higher education in notified institutions/courses. Applicants must satisfy the prescribed disability, income and other eligibility conditions specified under the scheme guidelines. The scheme provides financial assistance towards tuition fees and other eligible educational expenses, subject to the prescribed limits. Selection is subject to the eligibility criteria, merit and availability of scholarships/slots, as applicable under the scheme guidelines.
